We think our volunteers are superheros, but you don’t have to be Superman or Wonder Woman to make an impact.  

Fact is that our volunteers range in age from 18 to 85 and do everything from customer service in the store to sorting and pricing donations in the warehouse.  In 2010 our volunteers helped us process and sell over 2 million pounds of donated materials.
 

Please join us in our efforts to improve our community.  We need Volunteers to work in our Warehouse, Customer Service, and DeConstruction departments.

Warehouse help:
Shifts:    Mon – Fri 10am – 2pm
Mon – Fri 2pm – 6pm

Donors have been very kind to us and we need a lot of help processing and moving donated materials into the store.  No special skills required.

Customer Service:
Shifts:    Tues – Fri 10am – 2pm
Tues – Fri 2pm – 6pm
Saturday 9-4
Helping customers with their purchases including measuring items, carrying items, and generally making customers feel welcome. Knowledge of building materials, furniture, or landscaping and gardening is helpful, but not required.

DeConstruction:
Shifts:    Mon – Fri times vary
DeConstruction volunteers work with our licensed DeCon team to remove usable materials from homes and businesses.   Knowledge of tools and building techniques helpful but not required.  There is some heavy lifting and physical activity involved.
 
Marketing:  
One of the most important things volunteers can help with is spreading the word throughout the community.  Even if you don’t want to volunteer at ReStore, please help us to spread the word.
 

Who may do community service at the ReStore?

• Students needing hours for school
• Those with court-ordered hours from Jefferson County
• Those with hours outside of Jefferson County UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES
• Convictions of Theft, Sex Crimes, Violent Crimes, and Drug Trafficking are automatically disqualified from volunteering at ReStore

What should I bring on my first day?

• Your paperwork from the court/case worker/school
• A photo ID (license, passport, school ID)

When can I do my hours/how do I start?

• Call the ReStore Volunteer Coordinator at 502.804.1411 to set up a work  schedule.  Our normal work shifts are:

• Tues – Fri 2pm – 6pm
• Saturday 9am – 4pm

What should I wear?

• Comfortable, casual clothes that you can work in and don't mind getting dirty (jeans, athletic pants/shorts, etc.) Shorts must be at least mid-thigh in lenth - NO "short-shorts"
• Closed-toe, closed-heel shoes such as athletic trainers or work boots. No ballet shoes, crocs, etc. (For your safety, if you arrive with inappropriate footwear, you will not be permitted to volunteer at ReStore)
• Nametag (given to you by a staff member)
• Jacket/sweatshirt/raincoat – Dress appropriately for the weather.  Many tasks will require you to be outside, or in a backroom with open doors, so hot or cold/rainy weather will be a factor

What CAN'T I wear?

• Loose hanging jewelry
• Hats/headwear, except for baseball caps or religious headwear
• Anything featuring offensive or explicit slogans/language/images
• Overly baggy clothing
• Clothing that interferes with your ability to work, including items that you don't want to get dirty or paint on
• Anything that allows your undergarments to show, ie low-rise pants, sheer shirts, etc.

What will I be doing?

• Tasks vary day to day, but will usually consist of general housekeeping (sweeping, cleaning up and organizing various departments, dusting, cleaning the breakroom and bathrooms, wiping the windows, etc.), sorting donations, pricing items, putting priced items on the floor, creating or breaking down displays, transporting large items to customers' cars, etc.
